Hunger Free Northbrook is a recently initiated program of Hunger Resource Network, an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3), non-profit organization based in Northbrook, IL. Hunger Resource Network, founded in 2009, is dedicated to help alleviate hunger in the Chicago area by meeting the needs of food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.
Over the past year, in partnership with Tensley Garris, President of the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce, Sandy Frum, President of the Village of Northbrook, Jill Brickman, Northfield Township Supervisor and Patti Marshman-Goldblatt, Executive Board Member of the Alliance to End Hunger, Hunger Resource Network launched a program with the help of a community-wide coalition of stakeholders to address hunger in Northbrook. The mission of this program, titled Hunger Free Northbrook, is to engage the community to improve the food security and nutrition of those in need. Over 50 stakeholders representing Northbrook schools, houses of worship, businesses, healthcare, government and civic groups have identified and prioritized over 20 impactful initiatives. Six solution teams are currently in place focused on helping those who are food insecure in Northbrook. Five sustainable initiatives are already operational with more to follow.
